Orion is now available for Windows.
Please take note of the following issues affecting the installation and usage:
The download link is at the bottom of this page.
UAC Shenanigans
Windows user/admin privilege rules can be a bit restrictive. Applications running without admin rights can’t interact freely with those running with admin rights. For this reason, the most reliable configuration is usually to run Orion as Administrator.
1. You won’t be able to drag and drop files into Orion from non-admin apps like File Explorer, use the import function from the top menu.
2. You will be able to drag or spot files out of Orion into other admin-level applications.
3. If you’re comfortable with it, disabling UAC entirely might avoid these limitations.
Audio Device - Pro Tools Doesn’t Like Sharing
Pro Tools tends to fully take over whichever audio driver it’s using, which can prevent other applications from accessing the device at the same time.
If you’re running Orion alongside Pro Tools, you may need to use a third-party routing or virtual driver solution (for example, ASIO4ALL, Voicemeeter, or a similar multi-client ASIO wrapper). Orion does support ASIO directly, but we’ve received mixed feedback from testers, and we’re actively investigating compatibility improvements.
Special Characters
Orion’s current file-handling system isn’t fully comfortable with non-English characters yet.
We’re actively working on improving this, but for now, files or folders containing special characters may be treated as invalid.
Note: Version 1.2 is now available at the link below that supports a huge amount of non-english characters. Let us know how it works in your area!
GPU AI Engine
Orion relies on modern AI technologies running locally on your machine, which means GPU acceleration is highly beneficial. If you have an NVIDIA GeForce GPU, Orion will use the CUDA backend. We recommend updating your NVIDIA/GeForce/CUDA drivers before installing Orion—although updating afterward works as well, since Orion checks for the latest library version every time it launches.
What if I don’t have a Graphics Card
No worries! Orion still runs on systems without a GeForce GPU, or even without any GPU at all. However, performance will fall back to your CPU, which may result in slower ingest times and an overall heavier load on your computer.
Send To Orion AAX Plugin
The AAX Plugin is very useful for fast similarity searching in Orion from Pro Tools. There are some known issues that we are looking at. Some users reported Pro Tools crashing when closing the plugin. There is currently no installer for the plugin - you must manually place it in the Avid plugins folder at Program Files/Common Files/Avid/Audio/Plugins
Ingest Performance With Large Libraries
Some users report laggy performance of the app while ingesting large libraries. This being investigated.
